Andrew Hadfield is Professor of English at the University of Sussex and chair of the Society for Renaissance Studies (2016-8). He is the author of Edmund Spenser: A Life (2012, paperback 2014), and Shakespeare and Republicanism (2005, paperback 2008), and he has edited various volumes, including The Oxford Handbook of Early Modern Prose (2014). He is editing the works of Thomas Nashe for OUP with Jennifer Richards, Joseph Black and Cathy Shrank, and a book, also for OUP, Lying in Early Modern English Culture from the Oath of Supremacy to the Oath of Allegiance, due out in Sept. 2017 and he is now working on a book on literature and class.
