Since his retirement, he has spent half of his time in the Italian Maremma, where he pursues, among others, Anglo-Italian crossways.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Publications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">He was co-editor of the <em>Shakespeare Jahrbuch<\/em> and <em>Poetica<\/em> and author of Das <em>Drama. Theorie und Analyse<\/em> (Munich, 1982; Engl.: CUP, 1988). Among his more recent book publications are <em>Laurence Sterne<\/em> (2001), <em>A History of English Laughter<\/em> (2002), <em>Performing National Identity: Anglo-Italian Transactions<\/em> (2008),<em>Shakespeare\u2019s Sonnets Global, A Quatercentenary Anthology<\/em> (2009, 2014), <em>Dialoge zwischen Wissenschaft, Kunst und Literatur in der Renaissance <\/em>(2011), <em>Heroen und Heroisierungen in der Renaissance <\/em>(2013) and editions of Bruce Chatwin\u2019s <em>In Patagonia<\/em> (2003), Samuel Butler\u2019s <em>Notebooks <\/em>(2005), Shelley\u2019s <em>Zastrozzi <\/em>(2009) and Sir Thomas Brownes\u2019 <em>Urne Buriall and Selected Writings <\/em>(2014). He is also a translator and as such one of the German voices of Robert Lowell (1982) and Ezra Pound (<em>Die Cantos<\/em>, 2012).
